The Dodgers have a similar record against the Cardinals. Over 2,000 games played between them, and they're within four or five games of each other.
    That's just bizarre.

I heard that same stat mentioned yesterday. Of course, the Dodgers probably made most of their hay against the Cardinals post-1958. I'd say from 1939 (the hiring of Durocher) until the move west, the Dodgers and Cardinals were on even terms. Before Durocher, the Gashouse Gang owned the National League.

That story makes it sound like Cecil just committed the worst error in the history of baseball. Yeah, bonehead play...winning run ends up scoring a bit later and they lose. Big woop. The kid will get ribbed about it for a day, go out for his next start and think nothing of it. It happened, it's over.

It happened in Canada. Therefore, it didn't happen.

The Red Sox are the MLB team that claimed Billy Wagner off waivers. I wonder if the Mets can actually get something for him beyond dumping his salary.

    I had a feeling they'd do this....

Which means the Rays didn't put in a claim. Dammit.

Well, considering the Rays have a worse record, they could still claim him before the waiver falls to the Sox. I doubt they'd want to eat the rest of that salary, though.
