Add Johan to the list of Mets injuries.

Inevitable. Even Francoeur, who never gets hurt, has a torn ligament in his thumb. K-Rod's the only player of any significance who hasn't been hurt. Look for him to have shoulder problems within the week.

Worst of White Sox season in a nutshell.

As of this writing, Red Sox have gotten three runs in the third to tie the game at four.

First run (second inning) was scored when Jayson Nix decided to start a rundown between first and second, even though the runner from third broke to the plate.

Second run (first of third inning) scored on single, followed by two outs, followed by walk, followed by hit batsman (on an 0-and-2 count), followed by error on Contreras.

    Third run scored on walk.

Fourth run scored on wild pitch.

The only reason the stumbling, bumbling White Sox have a hope at the division title is because the Central sucks so much, although the Sox can't seem to beat anyone in it.

EDIT: Then Contreras gives up three-run homer. The stats will say all six runs he gave up were unearned, but he earned every fucking one of them. YGBFKM put it much more succintly.

Don't worry. Tigers won't gain any ground because they'll get their standard one run on four hits, while giving up 5 or 6.

They just had a really fantastic segment on MLB Network about tipping pitches (La Russa said Smoltz has been doing it this year, including yesterday at San Diego.)

Al Leiter can be an outstanding analyst sometimes. Gave an example of how, when pitching from the stretch, he used to move his hands ever so slightly back when he threw a slider, and his hands would come ever so slightly straight up when he threw a fastball. Cito Gaston noticed it and he was able to fix it.

I'm amazed this has been posted for so long without BYH expressing his joy.

I wish no ill will upon Johan Santana. He shouldn't have decided to be the union's lackey and go to the Mets, but he's got brass ones. Plus it's bad ju-ju to laugh at injuries (well, for everyone except Michael Irvin, maybe :D).

As for the Mets? Fuck them.

I will say it's funny that you posted and didn't say anything about how this is now an albatross for the Mets. That seven-year deal and ability to outbid everyone doesn't look so good now, does it? The Twins don't look so bad for "not being able to afford him," do they? They got the best years of his life. Let someone else pay for the downward slope.

The same thing will happen to the Yankees over the next 24 months with the guys they signed last winter. Nobody's going to be wailing "what if" about the Indians, Blue Jays and Angels. Mark. My. Words.

I'm not making assumptions about Santana's long-term future just yet, but that could turn out badly.

Then again, if the Twins had kept Santana and Hunter last year, they would have won the AL Central and could have made a heck of a run in the playoffs. But one reason they made that deal with the Mets is they are less able to afford a hit like a major injury to a highly-paid player like Santana than the Mets are.

Fuck you! I had one or two funny ones in 2003.

And oop, I'm willing to wager whatever you'd like that this is just the beginning of woes for Santana. These things don't often flare up and disappear.
