Verlander might have the best season for a third-place finisher in the ROY race that I can remember. Too bad he's breaking in during the same season as Liriano, who might get the ROY and lose the Cy Young only because of his teammate. (Hi BYH!)

Whichever of them finishes third, I assume would by far. Only competition I can think of is Webb, who should have at least been second, probably first.

You know, an early death could be a blessing in that I would have have a few years in hell before Berman and Morgan get there to narrate the proceedings.

Edit: I know they've been rotten together for sometime now, but they seem even more grating tonight.

Moddy, I hope you're enjoying this.

Majewski is absolutely horrid. Maybe it's just a funk.

Thank God for Brad Lidge or else the 'Stros might have won tonight.

Didn't the Reds score six of their eight runs in the first two innings? Like the Reds were going to blow that one.

In 1984, after 101 games, the Tigers were 69-32. (They finished 104-58).

This year, after 101 games, the Tigers are 68-33.

Not that those three are exactly the Twins' aces...

And Kearns and Lopez are starting to warm up. But I'm not enjoying anything. I've decided I don't want to see Soriano leave. Maybe I need to remove my fanboy glasses but I really believe they're not THAT far away. Keep him. Find a way to get some more pitching.

Majewski gets hot for 2-3 weeks, gets lit for 2-3 weeks, gets hot, gets lit *** I was more upset to lose Bray in that deal.

Majewski was horribly overused last year, and it continued this season. Earlier in the year, he reported rotator cuff tendinitis, and Frank sent him right back out the next night. It wouldn't shock me to see that the tendinitis is acting up, and that that's what's causing him to stink. I'm sure the Reds fans are going to love it when he has season-ending surgery next month.

Yeah, but the Stros torched Majewski and (to a much lesser extent) Bill Bray for three runs to make it 6-4 in the eighth. And with the Reds pen, no lead can be considered safe. Coffey, thnakfully, pitches better as a set-up man and was able to bail them out.

And I hated to see them waste Guardado for a game when they really didn't need him.

Thankfully, the Reds got a couple runs back off Lidge (who makes Majewski look decent).

Another note on the Reds -- Adam Dunn has his average up near .270 now. Pretty remarkable considering he wa shitting in the .220s just a couple weeks ago. Dude's reached safely in his last nine plate appearances, including a clutch ninth-inning RBI. And, since the Milwaukee walk-off (which occurred about the same time I ripped him in another baseball thread), the guy has been ultra clutch.

They don't need to catch Detroit.
