    From Bill Madden's Cooperstown column:

PERFECT TIMING: It wouldn't be a Hall of Fame weekend without at least one Yogi-ism. As he came off the golf course Saturday in the midst of one of several thunderstorms to interrupt the weekend festivities, Yogi Berra asked Hall of Fame VP Jeff Idelson: "How come it rains every Hall of Fame weekend? They need to move it to a different weekend."

Oof. Mets lost Duaner Sanchez for the season after he was injured in a car accident. Something tells me the Mets just got very interested in some setup men. My early guess is they will add Roberto Hernandez and bring up Royce Ring to see if he can get the job done.

Agreed with the guess on Hernandez, and bringing Ring up. At least Heilman's been better the past few weeks.

Mets getting Hernandez and Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady? What the hell happened with Perez? He had the potential to be great.

Loved having the X-Man on the team, but that's not a bad trade since the Mets have some options in the outfield with Milledge and Endy Chavez.

I don't like giving up Nady; I'm not sold on Chavez/Millings in right in the playoffs. I liked what Nady added to the lineup batting seventh. Really good bat against lefties.

Edit: What does this mean for next season? Milledge had always been the assumed left fielder next year with Floyd walking. Do they bring him back? Who's going to be out there as a corner outfielder?

Agreed. That was awful news about Sanchez. Just awful. Nady was really starting to look like he could be big time too. Perez helps us none right now. Will probably go to AAA. Roberto, hopefully will return to from of last year, but who the hell knows

Mad Dog brings up a good point: Sanchez injury takes the Mets down, from Sanchez and Nady to Hernandez and Milldedge(/Chavez?).

Long term, I like the Mets picking up Oliver Perez. Give Rick Peterson a chance to work with him, he could return somewhere close to 2004 form. Nady isn't much more than a platoon player, although a good one against lefties.

Hernandez's numbers aren't bad. Under 3 ERA and he was solid with the Mets last year. Milledge is going to have to grow up real fast now. Not worried about next year, there will be plenty of outfielders for sale. Hell it's possible Mets will throw a ton of money at Soriano.

Horrible luck with Sanchez, he was tough this year. Heilman will need to quit his bitching and step up his game. Bradford and Feliciano have been quite servicable.

I think Hernandez was probably the best guy they could have gotten to fill the Sanchez void. That 1.63 WHIP does scare me a little though. Opp BA up to .271 this season from .228 last year. Hopefully being back with Peterson can help that some.

It does seem like Roberto does his best in NY. I MUCH rather would want to see Sanchez Wagner than Hernandez Wagner however.
Who plays everday in right? Chavez or Milledge or a platoon of the two. That means there are no real left-handed bats off the bench.
