It was 2001. The longest home runs I've ever seen.

But I also saw Frank Thomas hit one 3/4th of the way up the speakers at the Hoover Met.

Wait a minute. There are no top facings in Comerica Park in the OF home run territory. Do you mean the right field Pepsi Porch or the fountain area in deep centerfield. Both are still prolific shots tho, just wondering where you mean.

the adam dunn shot that went into the ohio river a couple of years ago was pretty impressive -- it actually came to rest (not landed) in another state. not too shabby

    Hank --
I'll have to do some research later to try and remember where it happened.

I was watching on TV, and I swear it was the year he got called up in mid-season. It was a blast to right, but maybe it was somewhere else...

Utley keeps it going with a first inning single. MVP anyone?

He's not even the best player on his team.

Sean Casey and Brett Clevlen hit their first homers as Tigers in the fifth. Apparently, Clevlen is here to stay after throwing out two guys in his first couple of games. He almost nailed Crawford at third earlier as well.

It could be right field. There is what they call the Pepsi Porch there and it would take a pretty good poke to get there.

Good to see the Tigers come back after that piss poor outing on Monday. They looked completely flat in that game. Clevlen wasn't really tearing up AA Erie, but he had a pretty good spring training and the management remembered that.

Baldelli just got drilled in the wrist and left the game. Anyone else think he's done for the year?

Hopefully this isn't a D_B, but I was just watching the Braves-Bucs game and thought to myself, "Man, Xavier Nady must really be hating life right now."

I have now taken more than a full day to digest the moves the Pirates made at the trade deadline and I find myself with the exact same thought I kept having as they happened -- Dave Littlefield needs to be fired.

I was willing to blame ownership for the disgraceful trade that sent Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton to the Cubs for Jose Hernandez and other players that were even worse than Jose Hernandez. And he definitely earned some goodwill for dealing Brian Giles for Jason Bay and Oliver Perez, even though Perez has fallen apart.

But he really failed miserably this year. After months of making ridiculous requests when teams asked for Craig Wilson (such as asking the Cardinals for Anthony Reyes), he takes overpriced and downright awful pitcher Shawn Chacon from the Yankees.

Then he not only gives the Mets the set-up guy they desperately need with Duaner Sanchez hurt in Roberto Hernandez, he throws in Perez (still only 24 years old) and gets Xavier Nady. Let's see. Nady has power. He plays first base and the outfield corners. He looks good in stretches, then struggles when he's over-exposed. So, basically, he's Craig Wilson without the mullet.

Get value for Jeromy Burnitz? Nope. Pull off the rumored deal of a reliever for an actual prospect like Shealy from the Rockies? Nope.

I understand he's in a no-win situation, but he just keeps making it worse.
