    Could happen next year.

Unless Maddux is pitching for the Mets too. That might be a better question. When was the last time two 300 game winners were on the same staff?

  2. Are the Mariners really making a run at Soriano? Does it make any sense to give up several top-flight prospects when they have 3 teams to overcome in the AL West? And no pitching? And no guarantee of signing him to a long-term deal?

87 Indians had Carlton and Neikro until July 31, when Carlton was traded to the Twins (God, I love baseballreference.com) ... going back to check and see if Brook was on that team, just for you know who ...

... and yes he was. Weird season. Batted .300 with 32 home runs, 73 runs scored and ... here's the weird part ... 69 RBIs. How do you only drive in 69 when you hit 32 home runs?

An since at least two (three?) of the teams you listed lead their own divisions, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

I'm sure my numbers were soft in some way...

Simply point, Zeke. The Tigers are having an incredible season, the White Sox are a good team, as are the Twins.
But at least half the teams in each league (and just about all of them in both Western Divisions) range from mediocre to complete suckitude.

AL East...3 good teams, 2 teams that suck
AL Central... 3 good teams, 2 teams that suck
Al West ... 4 mediocre teams
NL East... 1 good team, 1 mediocre team, 3 teams that suck
NL Central ... 2 good teams, 2 mediocre teams, 2 teams that suck
NL West ... 5 mediocre teams

    Hey, I'll buy that.

I still think the AL is vastly

And I'm bitter that the Twins will go nowhere. Payback for a cheap division title back in '02, I guess.

    superior.

I have no doubt the AL is superior, not sure how vast it is (despite the interleague record) when there are so many mediocre to horseshit teams in both leagues....

    almost like the NFL ;D

The Angels are 12-1 this month. They are a good team that had a lot of injuries early in the year, but with their talent I think they would qualify as a good team. Not great, but good.

I have to agree with Gold on that one.

But Spnited is right that mediocrity reigns in both Western divisions. Throw those out, however, and the remains present a pretty stark contrast.

I didn't realize this, but I saw the stat last night.

The Tigers have the best record against sub-.500 teams (have only lost nine times).

But they also are third best against teams with above .500 records.

They just need to figure out how to beat the White Sox (of course last night, the Sox were an angry team, after being swept and Garland always gives the Tigers trouble).
