Who knows, maybe all the time off got him healthy. Even last year's numbers would make him a valuable post season bat off the bench for the Yanks. Take a free look in a work-out, if you don't like what you see - send him home. No risk, some potential reward, like Ponson.

Hillebrand was complaining because he wasn't playing the field, and the Yanks have Giambi at 1B and A-Rod at 3B - so you'd end up with him as a DH, which started the whole problem in the first place.

The Braves just got their closer. Don't count 'em out just yet.

While it might well be an upgrade, that move reeks of desperation.

I don't think there's any question they're desperate. Look at their bullpen. Besides, the Braves already have two highly-touted young catchers in McCann (not Hoops) and Saltamacchia (sp?).

Who's closing for the Indians now?

I reject your query as assuming facts not in evidence. To wit: That the Indians will have a lead.

In all seriousness, I have no idea.

I was going to start a new thread, but that'd be a waste since this is baseball-related.

Just read through the new Utne magazine and there's a fantastic little piece called "The American Dream" that is weaved by, among other things, a great baseball metaphor. It's really a nicely done piece.

Also, there was a big story on MyGOP, written rather tightly. I got through the first page and a half and then stopped, not because I was bored but because I got the gist of it. Anyone checked out that site? I'm sure a few elephants here who'd be interested. It's supposed to be like MySpace.

I don't get your assertion. Wickman was never able to get in a groove this season. I'm not about to do the research, but how many times did he have saves on back-to-back days? Last season, when the Tribe made its run, he saved 45 of 50, probably saving games back-to-back numerous times. Just because the Indians suck this year doesn't mean Wickman can't still get it done. If the Braves go on a roll, Wickman will help in a big way.

    Here are the Indians' choices:

    F. Carmona
    G. Mota
    F. Cabrera
    B. Sikorski
    R. Betancourt
    E. Mujica

Well, Wickman got the job done for the Tribe last year, but he's old, out of shape and puts way too many runners on base.

But Your point is well taken, and I didn't mean to assert that Wickman sucks. Just that this isn't a move the Braves hade made in a long, long time.

What about getting Farnsworth last year? It seems exactly the same.
