So Todd Jones isn't the worst closer in the majors?

I would argue that Joe Nathan (1.58 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, 58 Ks, 5 walks) is much more than reliable. He's in the dominant category.

I think it's actually five straight (although last night didn't count as blown, for some reason; either way five straight games he's come in and not gotten a save). His ERA is what, like 23-something in July?

When the Brewers deal Carlos Lee in a week, you can look right at Derrick Turnbow as to why (that and the team isn't even in the same ballpark money-wise that Lee wants). Those have been some crushing losses - last night's (5-0 lead), vs. the Giants two nights ago and at Arizona right after the break (four pitches, double to Gonzo and homer to Estrada - game).

Although my question is, again, if not Turnbow, who? Seems like Capellan would be the choice, but they aren't using him now. Brian Shouse? Matt Wise?

I read on brewers.com that -- gulp! -- Dan Kolb might be the man.

I just looked up Dan Kolb's splits:

    With runners in scoring position: 8.1 IP, 12 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 3 K, 2 WP, 19.44 ERA, .400 OBA

He did not have a good June: 10.32 ERA in 11.1 IP.

Good news, Bubbler: He has thrown two scoreless innings since the All-Star break!

In case you were wondering, Turnbow's ERA with runners in scoring position is 17.05. Here's a good one, with the bases loaded, his ERA is 216.00!

His July ERA is now a stellar 34.36.

Is Ned Yost trying to break my heart? Is he trying to make me travel to Milwaukee and throttle him after I kneecap Turnbow? Kolb has an ERA of almost six and walks as many guys as he strikes out. The Dan Kolb who was an all-star a few years ago is gone. I would much rather take a chance with Capellan throwing heat for an inning than Kolb.

Also, Turnbow tested positive for steroids a few years ago. Is it possible that he went off the juice recently to avoid another positive test?

Detroit just tagged Joe Blanton with a five-run first. Tigers just won't let up, will they?

Shhhhhh. Nothing to see here. Go about your business watching the Yankees or Red Sox.

Wow, Moddy, I think the Cubs have found a similarly hapless team to play. This looks like a bad college game with these morons on the basepaths.

    Re: White Sox Baseball...

Unless by "John Rooney" you actually mean Harry Kalas, Larry Andersen, Chris Wheeler, Scott Graham or Scott Franzke, then no, Rooney is not calling games for the Phils.
