Why the hell was he playing so deep? It looked like he was on the warning track to start.

Matt Wieters is just the second catcher to EVER nab Carl Crawford trying to steal twice in the same game. If I asked you who the other was, you'd ask in response "is the answer Jesus?" And I'd say no, I just told you He became the SECOND catcher to do it.

    The first was Gerald Laird.

The Yankees hit something like four Toronto batters in another recent series. It was about fucking time the Jays retaliated.

But here's a joke. Carlson and Posada both got four-game suspensions (unpaid) and fines. Carlson decided to appeal, saying he didn't think he should have received the same penalty as Posada. Fine, says Bob Watson, let's make a deal - you start serving your suspension right away, I'll reduce it to three games, lower the fine and also make it a paid suspension.

    Deal, Carlson says.

And then he finds out that Posada's suspension also got lowered to three games.

Which will actually be only two games, since he was already going to miss tonight's game anyway after hurting his neck in the fight.

According to Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star, Posada likely wouldn't have played even if he hadn't gotten hurt. Last night was his third straight game behind the plate, and he hasn't caught four games in a row all season; odds are he wouldn't have done it tonight.

This is incredible to me. The Texas Rangers — they of the No. 5 media market in the country — are flat-ass broke.

    http://blogs.wSportsJournalists.com/dailyfix/2009/09/16/a-unique-brand-of-broke-baseball-in-texas/

    The bullet points:

    • MLB is basically running the team and calling the shots on deals, including the decision not to offer top draft pick Matt Purke what he wanted.

    • They're likely going to bench Kevin Millwood for the rest of the year so his $12 million option doesn't vest. He's 4 1/3 innings away from 180 innings, which triggers the option. (Never mind that Millwood will file a grievance and wipe the floor with them.) (And never mind that Millwood sucks and fell out of shape.)

    • Team president Nolan Ryan is working without a contract and instead under a handshake deal with Hicks.

I see San Juan in the Rangers' immediate future.

How much of ARod did Hicks have to pay?

Also, it's not like Nolan Ryan is in dire need of money.

    Yes.
I turned to my son when he came up and said, "This one is going out. He's the better Jason/Jayson in this matchup." Sure enough.
