Baseball Thread Number 8: Cal Ripken says the playoff hunt is fun

I need to take late-night naps more often. Maybe when I wake up next time, the Sox will have fired Kenny Williams and Alex Rios will have retired.

 

OK, I'm not an expert on baseball...but isn't the idea of the COLORADO ROCKIES trading for JOSE CONTRERAS to pitch at COORS FIELD about the worst idea in history?

 

Considering they got, from what it sounds like, absolutely nothing in return.

 

Given the amount of junk he throws, yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

I guess we'll see.

Ozzie Guillen all but calls his team quitters after the game, too. From the wire story:

“Our offense has shut it down,” Guillen said. “We picked the wrong road trip to struggle.”

 

It's not a good one.

 

They are quitters. They're 1-7 so far on the make or break 10 game road trip. Pathetic.

Oh, please, Thome was one of my favorite players, but he wasn't gonna carry them to a division title. And in case you haven't noticed, Contreras completely fucking sucks. If that's not addition by subtraction, then two plus two equals five.

 

Meh, Contreras and Thome have very little value and had no chance of being resigned, so I don't care too much about what they got in return. Hopefully one of these guys can turn into something. If not, what's the harm?

 

Maybe the Sox can trade Bartolo Colon to the Rockies too.
