16 years in the majors... and Arthur Rhodes' left arm finally fell off tonight (not literally).

    Just now.

He's in a lot of pain.

Ryan Howard is the one man in MLB right now that you do not pitch to in a key situation. Period. I would have walked him just like Girardi did in both those situations

Twins now 3 back. White Sox 3 1/2.

Can the Tigers blow this in the last 20 games?

    Good guys win again! [/hawktard]

And when and why did the Braves get Daryle Ward?

Nothing magical about it. Just common sense. Pitch to the hottest hitter in baseball who has 56 HRs and is going to win the MVP, or pitch to Jeff Conine. Not a hard choice.

At the rate they're going now, hell yes.

But never fear. Obi-Wan Leonardo da Vinci Einstein Leyland is busy cooking up some brilliant, grizzled, seasoned strategy to save the season.

(He's been very carefully not using any of those brilliant strategies for the last six weeks. Just another sign of his crafty wisdom.) ;)

While spnited made this comment on another thread, I wanted to post it here because the Royals beat the Red Sox for the fifth straight time this season, 10-4, with a six-run 12th. That victory clinched the season series for the Royals.

And to think Yankees fans on this board early this season feared their team would miss the playoffs "only" because of the Royals losing time after time to the Tigers, Twins and White Sox.

Not sure if this was posted here yet, but now it turns out Travis Hafner's hand was broken last week and he's done for the year.

How does it take over a week and 2 or 3 x-rays before they find that out?

    Percentages say otherwise.

Dontrelle Willis with the Marlins' biggest pitching performance of the season

Mind you, he cramped up and had to leave his previous start early.

    3-hit shutout, 12 strikeouts.
