Of, fuck, you are right, especially after I wrote this:

It just struck midnight... and the Marlins' carriage has a pumpkin-like smell all of a sudden.

    They haven't.
Mets 5, Marlins 4 in the top of the eighth.

Twins with an abolutely huge come-from-behind win. Minnesota scores four in the bottom of the eighth to make a winner of Denny Reyes. Nathan with the save.

The Twins started reliever Matt Guerrier and then let the bullpen finish out the game.

Liriano goes for the sweep and the Twins sixth in a row tomorrow at noon.

sp, Mauer was 0-2 with two walks. He feels shame.

    It really could happen.

But the Yankees are looking like beasts all of a sudden.

    Fuck I love September baseball.

And with that, the Braves' streak of 14 straight division titles comes to an end.

I don't know what's worse -- seeing the Bravos go out with a whimper or imagining Tom Glavine pitching against Greg Maddux in a few weeks with a pennant on the line. As much as I hate the Mets, I guess I'll be pulling for Glav in that one (always liked him better for some reason -- maybe it's that World Series MVP ;D).

Mark Bradley wrote a respectful euology last week about the streak. Fuck the one championship -- 14 straight is more impressive. (Although as a Braves fan, I woulda given up at least half those division titles for 1-2 more WS titles.) But still: the streak will never be surpassed.

Can't argue with that. I also read Bradley's column and thought he did a great job of summing things up. As a fan, if I could have just one back, it would be -- surprise, surprise -- 1996. Two games away from being the Big Red Machine of the '90s and then, well, Mark Wohlers decided he wasn't another "brain-dead hurler." Ugh!
