Your name might be Columbo but you sure can't figure things out like him. Instead of being a smart ass maybe you should try bring some facts to the table then you might actually make some sense.

Wait. The ChiSox won? I had already written that one off.

Reds just tied Cubs 3-3 with a home run. Why do I continue to watch this shit?

Cubs ahead 10-4. Reds have five errors. This game reminds me of the start of the year, when the Reds looked to be fodder.

Mark Redman gave up nine runs in one-third of an inning, and the Royals gave up 10 before they even came to bat. Guess the fans on hand tonight probably didn't make that much noise, unless it was to boo.

Trevor Hoffman shuts down Pirates to nab save No. 479.

Because I'm too lazy to start a thread, I ask SportsJournalists.com this: Is Hoffman now a lock for the HOF?

Hoffman: Yes. No question. He's been the most dominant closer in the NL in the last decade. You dominate the league at your position for an entire decade, and put up even a decent 5-10 years otherwise, and you should be pretty much in. ...

Closers are different, obviously. Hard to judge them against anybody else. That's why I think dominance is so important. You have to be an absolute lights-out stopper to get to Cooperstown that way. Guys like Lee Smith, John Franco, John Wetteland, Reardon, Mesa, etc. -- though they racked up a bunch of saves -- were never truly dominant. (And I don't mean "dominance" as in 99 mph power pitcher, because Hoffman still "dominates" and he can barely reach 88 now. I mean "intimidating presence," fearsome in a Jim Rice kind of way -- another guy who deserves to get in.)

Hoffman has that presence. So does Rivera. (But I hope Goose is in way before either of them gets in. What a travesty. Can't think of any other closers that deserve to get in yet. But all three of them are absolute locks.)

Oh, and Nomar just hit a walkoff grand slam in the Dodgers' final home game. Still a half-game back in the wild-card, as the Phils won today. Still 1.5 games back in the West, as the Pads won today.

Should be a fun week out here on the Left Coast. :)
