Sorry Oz but I gotta disagree with you. There's not Royals-like punching bag (sorry pal) in the AL East. There's three teams within 3 1/2 games of one another and all have the firepower, dollars and, perhaps, the pitching to remain in contention until the final week. Lots of questions in the Yankees and Sox bullpens and in all three rotations, but imagine if the three teams keep their 1-2 punches on the mound all summer.

The Orioles just nearly swept the contemptible Mets and the Devil Rays are much, MUCH better than their record indicates. I realize that's a lot like saying the Hawks are much improved because they didn't lose 60 games, but there are five tough teams in the AL East.

As for the Mets sweeping the DBacks, let's not get carried away, Spnited. This was right after the Grimsley thing and the DBacks have completely fallen apart (just a coincidence, I'm sure).

I hope someone else wins the NL East, because I can't see the Mets losing the pennant to the overmanaged Cardinals or anyone else. Ack.

  2. Just as a reminder - Red Sox 6 - Nationals 3

    That is all

With a Royals reject on the mound, that's the most shocking result of the year.

So who, exactly, comprose the Yankees 1-2 punch on the mound, BYH?
Mussina is 1 and the rest is ????

Wang's looked pretty good (huh huh). I don't think Johnson is completely finished. They might find someone else on the market.

In other words, Mussina and ... um... uh... er...somenbody else.

Wang has looked pretty good. Johnson will give you one good start every 3 or 4 times out. The rest is garbage.

Trust me, I know my position isn't a popular one, especially with all the money the Yankees, Red Sox and now the Blue Jays seem to have to perhaps add a piece or two before the trade deadline. But the Red Sox lack the arms right now, and the Yankees do at times, too. And that's what wins World Series -- great arms.

Detroit has them and the White Sox have them. Heck, even the Twins have them with Liraino to boost that rotation, a deep bullpen and the always reliable Joe Nathan to close out games. Tribe? They could use some of what the Twins got to keep pace.

I've said it in years past and I'll say it again, for the first time this season -- I wish baseball used balanced schedules again. No one could use the weak or strong division argument come playoff berths. You missed out? You should have won more games, sorry.

Arizona is 5-12 since June 1. Only Cleveland and Atlanta have worse records this month.

Let me add one more voice to this...the AL Central is far from the weakest division in baseball and it is definitely stronger than the NL East. Yes, there is one true punching bag in there, but otherwise it is more balanced and features the defending World Series champions.

The Twins have also been much better of late, at least in part because they stopped being stubborn and put Liriano in the rotation.

The Mets may eventually prove to be the better team, but based on record and the strength of the division, the Tigers have been the superior team so far.

Troy Glaus at short is freaky to watch.

This might sound cocky, but I really don't care. As a Mets fan, the only National League team that worries me is the St. Louis Pujols'.

I would agree with that, with the caveat that if Houston gets to the postseason with the Clemens-Oswalt-Pettite trio clicking, they become scary too.
