Since I KNOW you guys don't want to delve into the shark-infested water of comparing their regular-season numbers, I will assume the disagreement pertains to the postseason, where there at least is a competition, though it isn't won by Jeter. And don't give me the "But Jeeeetah has fo rings." ARod would have had (I'll be conservative) at least five.

    Jeter:
    .307 BA, .378 OB, .463 SLG, .841 OPS

    ARod:
    .305 BA, .401 OB, .534 SLG, .935 OPS

The pass that Jeter gets from the NY fans and media, while Rodriguez gets torched, is bizarre.

Perhaps the New Yorkers don't like gentrified Latinos wearing the pinstripes. Just as ridiculous as any other reason why he gets barbecued up there.

I must be stupid (shaddup!) but I thought that Major League Baseball always announced the starters, and then the reserves and pitchers about a week later.

But that was before ESPN found out there was money to be had with an All-Star selection show.

    Got it.

Did they announce it via the ESPN mobile phone?

Kansas City had a winning record against the NL Central without playing the Cubs, and you think the NL East is dogass??

St. Louis is grossly overrated, but I can't say for sure if the Cards are more so than the Mets. Let's just ask any Cardinals fan, since they are the best in baseball.

If they did, about five people would know who the All-Stars are.

And that brings us to today's Aflac trivia question (Gilbert crosses the screen and speaks) Alfac!!!! ... What team from Missouri last won a World Series?

Let's ask the best fans of baseball here in St. Louis, I'm sure they know ...

Special to spnited and HB and the rest of the Mets fans, I can't help but have this feeling that the Mets are getting ready for a real downspin. Now, I realize four games against the Pirates could change that, but I'm looking at potential pitching maladies. Pedro Martinez will miss at least one start, probably more, with that hip problem. Could that be the beginning of lengthy patches of unavailability? We've seen Alay Soler and El Duque show us that they are no better than sixth or seventh starters in a five-man rotation, so that leaves us with Glavine and Trachsel. Glavine has been superb but he is 40. Trachsel has surprised me but I still know what he's capable of and it isn't necessarily pretty.

The offense is more than capable of keeping them atop the dog-ass NL East but, after that? Anyway, who among us picked them to win the division? Not me, I picked the Phillies. Most of you picked the Braves.

Everything you said is true, Casty. It's also worrisome that their 7-8-9th inning combination of Heilman, Sanchez and Wagner hasn't been as dependable lately as it was early in the season. If the Mets aren't careful, somebody in that division is eventually going to get hot, get the lead down to 6 or 7 games and make them start to sweat. They need something to get them kick-started again, like Mike Pelphrey coming up and blowing people away in the second half. Either that, or Minaya needs to go get a front-line starter, and yes, I'd consider dealing Milledge for the right pitcher

Having said that, every other team in the NL has at least as many weaknesses, if not more.

At least the NL Central has more than one team over .500, and four teams within spitting distance of the playoff race.

The Mets can't even beat the dregs of the AL East, yet their lead in the division is larger than the collective lead of the other five division leaders COMBINED.

The rest of the NL East would have to go on a two-week tear just to sniff the Mets.

Can we agree that both divisions suck? :D Of course, in the NFL, it's called parity. ::)
