Tom Hume! I remember a baseball card of his. Wasn't he the guy who looked like an clean-cut, anal-retentive Republican?

  3. Thanks I should have known.

I was just checking the historicals on the Mariners site and saw the story.

Jamie Moyer is their all-time win leader with 140. As one sided as that Varitek & Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb deal was - the Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg deal going the other way was just as bad.

You know the Red Sox really haven't had as many great pitchers as you would expect from a frachise as old as the Sox. Wakefield would be 4th in wins for the Mets and he'd just break the top 10 of most of the franchises as old as the Red Sox. I just found that interesting.

    Dear Phil Garner,

What's up? Nice career you've had after leaving Milwaukee. Anyway, can you please put Chris Capuano on the All-Star team? He should replace Pedro, especially since the Brewers are now 2 1/2 games behind the Cardinals.

I know you might be thinking of your boy Roy Oswalt, and in an evil way, I wouldn't mind you wasting a few innings on Oswalt at PNC, but Capuano deserves it and is showing his staying power. Not to mention, the Brewers are ahead of you in the division.

Many thanks. Hey! Did I ever tell you I almost got my ass kicked at Jacobs Field for yelling, "Pat Listach, Rookie of the Year?" Those crazy Tribe fans did not likey that, given their crush on Kenny Lofton back in '94 or so. Good times.

    Remember ... Capuano. See ya.

Yeah, I had to spell it out, though, to really appreciate it.

I actually like the deal. Guardado has pitched well of late. At this point, anyone other than Ryan Wagner is an improvement.

Up until recent years, the Red Sox never have been really known for their pitching ... always had the hitting, the knock was the pitching. Even in '75 their staff was just so-so.

Regardless, contenders like St. Louis, Houston, Minnesota and Toronto should expect to beat the Royals every game.
