Alex Escobar sighting today: 4-for-4, 3 RBIs in Nats choke job (Hi Moddy!).

Wasn't this guy the next big thing?

Well, I did get to see two of the longer home runs I've ever seen. Khalil Greene has faced Cordero three times and hit two majestic, ninth-inning bombs.

Patterson going out after one didn't help. Frank tried to juggle that pen the rest of the way and almost made it. You don't figure Chief is going to go out there and give up FOUR in the ninth.
    OK, so maybe you do.

Escobar is hitting the shit out of the ball. He seems to be cut from the same cloth as Patterson. Play well for a very short while and then get hurt.

Escobar will find a way to get hurt during the Break.

Wright is fun to watch... Both he and Reyes actually look like they're having fun playing a game. That's refreshing.

As long as the Mets don't screw it up, they're going to have the best left side of the infield in baseball for the next decade. Especially after A-Rod's contract runs out and he flees New York.

Granted, the Mets play in the gawd-awful NL East, but the foundation is there for a dominant team for years to come.

And if they can deal for another starting pitcher, or if Pelfrey matures quickly, they have the stuff to win it all this year, crappy division and all.

So during the Futures Game they talked about how David Ortiz is the easy favorite to win the HR derby tomorrow. I'm going with Ryan Howard instead though.

That's for anyone who cares about that sort of thing. I don't REALLY care that much, but it's sometimes fun to watch if Berman is away from the mic. And it's something silly and different instead of making fun of Charlie Manuel or ripping Mike Scoscia and David Glass.

Joe Morgan's gold suit scares me just a little.

Ortiz needs to get through this game first -- Sox and Sox tied at 5 in the 17th. Trot Nixon is 0 for 8. Varitek is is 0 for 7 with a walk.
