Don't understand why the Big 12 would do that. ND's non-rev sports & basketball teams bring nothing to the table.

The irish will own the Big 12 in hockey though.

Those Morgantown/South Bend road trips in February will be a blast.

OK, wild theory I'm tossing out here based on nothing but my own imagination: Maybe the Big 12 is willing to take Notre Dame as a non-football member because another school, perhaps Florida State, is willing to join as a football only member.

FSU could take Notre Dame's spot in the Big East, which would eliminate many of the travel problems joining the Big 12 would cause.

Where would the rest of FSU's sports go? They won't be allowed to stay in the ACC.

By that, I meant the rest of FSU's sports.

Sorry, misread that. That is an interesting idea.

Thought this was kind of funny but not sure it deserves its own thread.

Texas Tech is scheduled to play a football game at Texas State in September. Tech was apparently told early on the game would air on an "ESPN platform." Tech found out this week that the platform would be the Longhorn Network. Upon hearing this news they told Texas State "we ain't comin'" and is prepared to play an 11-game schedule unless Texas State and the WAC agree to remove the game from the Longhorn Network.

That means Chip has a 50% chance of being right with the story.

Meanwhile, for a school that claims to be committed to the Big East for football, Boise State really seems to be taking its sweet time leaving the Mountain West.

Boise really really really should consider staying put. The BCS carrot the Big East was dangling appears to have gone rotten. The Big East itself is no great shakes and isn't going to get any better with half the football schools wanting to leave and the basketball schools unhappy as ever. At this point, they're about as likely to get a top bowl game in the MWC as they are the Big East, even without San Diego State, and the travel is a lot less. They don't seem able to get their non-football teams into the Big West, which means they'll take a big hit when they move to the Big Sky or the emaciated WAC, in whatever form that ends up taking.

Meanwhile, the CAA might be launching an all-out nukefest on the SoCon, "formally contacting" Davidson, College of Charleston and Appalachian State while sending feelers to Elon and Furman (and Stony Point).

Why App would move to the CAA is anyone's guess. They want very much to move up to FBS, and if they join the CAA, they'll end up paying a $1 million exit fee when they finally get their invite to the Sun Belt/WAC/maaaaaybe CUSA. The other schools make sense to varying degrees, though Davidson is said to not be especially interested. If CofC and at least one other SoCon school jumps, that may force their hand.

If they all leave, the SoCon could be good as dead. Georgia Southern would speed up their FBS plans as quick as a rabbit for fear of being stuck in a subpar FCS conference should an upgrade moratorium come to pass. The Citadel, Western Carolina and Wofford probably head to the Big South. UNC Greensboro would too, unless they take App's spot in the CAA. Samford and UT-Chattanooga to the Ohio Valley? Alternately, the SoCon could snag other schools to stay alive -- Coastal Carolina, High Point, possibly Liberty and Jacksonville State if they decide to put their FBS hopes on hold for a bit.

Broncos opt for Big East, apparently with moments to spare:
