I'm more and more convinced that within a decade, we'll blow the whole thing up and come up with a model that makes more sense.

Notre Dame, all by itself, has an equal voice in the playoff discussion as the entire SEC, Big Ten, etc etc.

If I were Alabama, Texas, Michigan and Ohio State (and about 25 others who outrank the Farting Irish in importance), I'd be doing something about that bullshit.

Such as, "See you later, boys. You get in our playoff if you go 12-0-0. Otherwise, you're going to Shreveport."

Too many bowls still fawning over Notre Dame and TV ratings.

If you're the Smuckers Bowl, would you rather have 11-1 Boise State or 8-4 Notre Dame? Go Irish!

Idaho and New Mexico State dropping football? I could believe that San Jose State would drop it before Idaho and NMSU. I actually could see Idaho going back to the Big Sky, putting its football program back in (I-AA) where it belongs.

I don't think either one is considering dropping football but going back to FCS has to be an option.

But here's the thing, if NMSU drops down they still don't have anywhere to go.

    Big Sky for NMSU too?

It's forgotten that NMSU was in the MVC for about a decade-and-a-half.

Idaho will go independent for five years before going back to FCS. The Big Sky desperately wants Idaho back in, but it's not happening.

Not sure the Big Sky would want them. It's pretty far-removed from the rest of the league.

Southland might not be the worst place for NMSU to land if they dial back to FCS. That probably isn't any worse than a WAC comprised mostly of Eastern FCS upgrades. I can't even imagine what TV channel would broadcast those games. ESPN The Diez y Nueve?

Fortify the league in case Jacksonville State, Sam Houston State and Lamar go up. They're down to eight football schools (nine when Houston Baptist's program hits the field in 2014).
