ESPN is now picking up the ND story.

Seems like they're trying to get them in now and get football later. The ACC wants to paint Notre Dame into a corner and keep them there until the megaconferences shake out. Basically, the ACC has licked the Notre Dame lollipop and laid claim to it.

You mean "the only conference they truly fit expect for the one they REALLY truly fit but that one doesn't want them."

Yeah, it'll be hard for Notre Dame to join another conference if they're that tied into the ACC.

If the 16-team A-10 works out well enough this year, I wonder if they might go after a couple of Big East teams to take the place of Temple and Charlotte after this season. DePaul and Marquette might enjoy a conference with Xavier, Dayton, Butler and St. Louis over one that can't figure out its identity and will invite damn near anyone that has a football team.

Well the Big 12 had no chance of landing ND, not without selling the farm to it. The ACC was a better geographic and institutional fit. It seems to be checkmate in terms of locking the walls of expansion for the Big 12 though. No way does FSU or Clemson leave now. Louisville and Cincy will go broke leaving the Big East now, though that always seemed to be the legitimate next step to give some geographical sense to the WVA addition. Other than that, there is really no other place to go.

Makes a lot more sense geographically if nothing else.

If the SEC comes calling, it's a no-brainer. Not that the Gators or Cocks will ever go for letting in an in-state rival, but still.

I was basically talking about the Big 12. Hell the SEC can annex all of America if they want.

FSU and Clemson would be ideal fits for the SEC. But you're right that Florida and South Carolina would veto it so fast their heads would spin.

Of course it's been mentioned many times already that the SEC has no interest in adding schools in states where they already have members. That does nothing to expand the footprint of the conference. Even if UF & USC were ok with FSU & Clemson it makes zero sense for the SEC to add them.

Then what other states do you see them going to? Va. Tech? Who else?
