    If not Delaware itself.

I looked it up last night, I wrote a story that ran Oct. 3, 2011 about ACC television revenue. In it, I mentioned Maryland to the Big Ten as a possibility in part because the Terps had just voted against the pre-Notre Dame $20 million exit fee, the attractive TV markets and the limited number of AAU schools available.

So I'm going to go ahead and take credit for kicking everyone's ass on this story by 13 months. ;)

If the Big Teneleventwelvefourteen were smart, it would scrap this "Legends" and "Leaders" garbage and split the divisions simply:
East: Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern
West: Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska

(if one can protect the OSU-Michigan game cross-divisionally, then swap Michigan/MSU with Indiana/Purdue)

I anticipate the Big Ten won't be done until there are 16 teams in the league, but they're running out of teams to go after, especially now that Missouri is off the board and Notre Dame won't ever go in football. Kansas? UConn?

This is a huge money grab by a conference with a commissioner whose ego and desire to show everyone his dick is the biggest.

So, no, this is NOT breaking news.

And speaking of Missouri ... if they had been patient and just sat tight, not only would they be swimming in $ in the Big 12 (with much brighter competitive prospects) and they probably could have delayed signing any grant of rights or asked for an out clause for the Big Ten.

And, Mizzou folks: About that streak of being in bowl games ...

To get to 16 the Big Ten would pretty much have to further raid the ACC. Texas, Kansas and Iowa State are AAU schools, but would have to forfeit 12 years worth of TV money to leave the Big 12. That leaves UNC, Duke, Virginia and Pitt among ACC schools unless they think they are going to get somebody to bail from the Pac-12 or SEC or are willing to take on a mid-major such as Rice or Buffalo. I really doubt either of those are going to happen.

A friend thinks Jim Delany, a UNC grad, really wants to bring in North Carolina. No idea who would be the UNC "partner."
But, considering the current UNC academic scandal, I think North Carolina is a perfect fit in the Big Ten.
