If Boise State home football games are not included in the MWC television package, wouldn't that significantly lower the value of that package?

I guess you'd still get that Nevada-Wyoming showdown, but still.....

  2. No, because the deal was made before Boise State decided to stay.

Well, then, don't change the rules in the middle of the game.

If I pay X dollars for a deal with the assumption that Boise State is part of the deal, and then you turn around and tell me I have to pay more for certain games, I'm taking my dominoes and going home. I can show the World Series of Poker and draw the same audience.

  4. Boise State wasn't going to be part of the deal.

The Mountain West is reopening negotiations on its contracts. Having Boise makes it more marketable to CBS, ESPN and Fox. If what AP had is correct, with Boise getting a little extra cut based on appearances, it sounds like Boise is trying to act like the Texas of the MWC.

    OK, that makes sense.

I don't think it will fly, though. How are the other MWC schools going to react to someone else getting a bigger share? I can see minimal value for the league as program filler on one of a dozen cable sports networks, but few people are just craving to watch Boise Bleepin' State on a weekly basis.

Anyone think Boise made a last-ditch inquiry to the Big 12?

The MWC is holding the 12th spot open for BYU. I think it would just as soon see SDSU twist in the wind in Big East football, and die on the vine in the Big West in its other sports.

    ...wouldn't you?

And naturally, Memphis is going to get screwed. Now the Tigers must know what the city at large felt like with their professional football journey.

Was thinking the same. BYU was so determined to become the Mormon Notre Dame, though ...

Brian Murphy of the Statesman weighs in: Not only does Boise get home TV revenues, but they can wear all-blue on the smurf turf!

  12. BYU really doesn't need the MWC. It's in a good league for its other sports and is on ESPN networks for most of its football games.
