BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

I think so. I don't think any other school has the same deal as Boise, for home games at least. If any school qualifies for the BCS they take a 50 percent cut of that bowl money and the conference gets the other half.

  2. The only perks Boise will get are the national TV appearance bonuses. Revenue from a new Boise State home-game TV package will be retained by the MWC.

And as I posted a few days ago, I think all the teams get national TV bonuses. It's just Boise State, especially at the moment, that will benefit the most from such a set up.

Don't think this is a d_b, but Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman got a copy of the agreement between the MWC and Boise:

  5. According to that blog post, it seems as if there is some dispute on whether the National Exposure Bonus includes all games or just conference games and non-conference home games.

    The agreement itself isn't clear.

Heavy favorites to join the Catholic 7: Butler and Xavier.
    Strong candidates: Creighton and Dayton.
12th-spot candidates: St. Louis (front-runner) and VCU.

This according to Pete Thamel's SI.com story today.

The priests at Creighton are out of their fucking minds if they make this move.

Why is that? CU's cut of the MVC television contract must top out at $400,000 or so. Even if the Big East refugees take a larger chunk of the eventual TV deal than their invited guests, the extra NCAA tournament units could more than make it worth Creighton's while.

Weigh the increase in revenue against the fact that damn near every single conference road trip for every single varsity sport will involve a plane ride and see how much more money, if any, they're making.

Thinking a Catholic 7 conference might be easier on expenses for Creighton than the MVC, which has its share of tough-to-get-to locales. Bradley, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana State, Evansville, Missouri State -- those don't seem like bus rides to me, and going through smaller airports can sometimes lead to more pricey flights, more connections, etc.

With the Catholic 7, I'm thinking direct flights from Omaha to Dayton, DC, Philly, NYC, etc. would help. And Creighton could still play Drake, Northern Iowa, Wichita State, etc. closer to home during non-conference play if they want to curb costs and still keep good regional games on the schedule.

If you divided the new league into East and West divisions and kept the non-revenue sports schedules mostly intra-divisional, the travel wouldn't be bad at all. A West division would include teams in Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and maybe Missouri if you go to 12.
