BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

I'm not sure why Creighton would even consider not doing this if offered. It's the type of league that's been dreamt about for eons in Omaha. All like-minded and good basketball schools joining up. Just the raise in competition alone would be a huge boost to the school, I'd think. The Missouri Valley has been great, but face it outside of 2006 and Wichita State there it's not always been the toughest league. You do this for recruiting, recognition, to join forces with similar schools, level of play, revenue and any other number of reasons. It's a no brainer.

Yeah, the MVC is so soft that four of the Catholic 7 couldn't win it this year - St. John's, Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul.

  3. Forget basketball. A Creighton-DePaul volleyball Mach would be epic.

Ah, simple as that. Those teams will gladly play a school that devalued their product. See: Kansas vs. Missouri.

Based on what I've been told by those in the know, it would be exponentially more expensive for Creighton in the new league vs. the MVC. It will essentially cancel out the bigger payout they get from the better TV deal.

But they'll make the move because its higher profile and Creighton has a jones for being included with the Catholic big boys.

If Butler and Xavier are locks and Dayton and Creighton are near-locks, then someone between St. Louis and VCU is about to see their athletic fortunes take a big hit. If St. Louis doesn't get in the CYO or Big Priest or Holy See AA or whatever we're going to call this thing, at least they can take Creighton's spot in the MoValley. If VCU doesn't get the spot, they're suddenly staring at life in an A-10 that doesn't have four of its most prominent programs. Then subtract UMass when they find their all-sports home and the resulting league will be nothing like they hoped for when they signed on. It'd be them, Richmond, St. Joe's and ... uh oh. And whatever schools the A-10 get to replace the departing schools won't even come close to making up for them. What's the best-case scenario then? George Mason, Davidson, Belmont and the best low-major northeastern program? That's not horrible, but it's also not Butler, Xaiver, Dayton and St. Louis.

On the other hand, they'd be better than the CAA. But on the other other hand, so is the CIAA.

I'm guessing Nova wouldn't think of letting St. Joe's into this new league?

Is VCU ever going to do football? If they do, I could see them moving up the food chain fast.

Wicked: would be shocked if St. Joe's got in. I don't even think it's a Nova thing, it's more that there's at least six schools with better arguments (seven counting Gonzaga).

Dixie: if VCU doesn't get in with the Catholics, they're pretty much peaked in a greatly-diminished A-10. There's not a lot of flexibility with the non-basketball schools -- they have no options outside the A-10 if the Catholics say no. In that case, they may have to seriously consider adding football. Whether they do is anyone's guess.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody except those working for the Big East, San Diego State to stay in the MWC:

Bowlsby talked a little about Big 12 expansion. From Dennis Dodd's CBS article ...

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/dennis-dodd/21564054/big-12-commissioner-league-could-be-proactive-in-expansion

“That's exactly one of the questions we'll be asking ourselves,” Bowlsby said Wednesday. “Look at Maryland and Rutgers. They don't bring programs that are of the ilk of the others in the Big Ten. The philosophy clearly is: ‘As members of the Big Ten we can grow them.' “

... Does this mean they're going to look at BYU, Cincy, UConn? Or does that seem more like USF (growing a Florida market) if Florida State is content with the ACC?
