One of the most under-reported, or under-commented potential scenarios of the realignment era is that the arguably most valuable basketball program in the country could find itself in the same boat with the likes of Memphis, SMU and Tulane when all of this shakes out.

I've yet to see one realignment scenario involving the raiding of the ACC that includes a new home for Duke.

Don't think the ACC is dissolving. Heck, they're up to 15 teams last I looked. I think there are some pieces that the Big 12 could play with. And trading West Virginia for, say, Louisville or Cincinnati might be viable as well.

Not even a surprise to the Big East folks. They're looking at bringing in Tulsa now that the league is basically becoming C-USA 2.0.

No trade is going to happen. The conference doesn't own the team.

Wonder if West Virginia would fancy itself in an ACC division with Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers, Boston College, Virginia and Va. Tech? Instead of all those road trips to Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas?

Good to hear. I'm surprised it took SDSU this long to actually announce they were rejoining the MWC. They should've beat Boise to the announcement.

Sure. Radford would like to get in on that too, which is just as likely.

It wasn't an issue of if SDSU wanted to return, it was whether the conference would accept it.

I read somewhere that part of Boise's deal to rejoin the MWC included a clause that San Diego State had to be considered for re-entry before the league considered expansion. If so, solid move on Boise's part given it was the a big reason why SDSU moved in the first place.

With AQ status essentially gone under the new BCS agreement, I keep asking why. Just to further agitate the Catholic Seven ?

Yeah because WVU never once thought of joining the ACC. You do realize WVU had been beating down the ACC's door ever since the birth of the conference in 1953, but there always was a reason to keep them out. WVU was denied in '53 because of travel reasons, and they asked a few times during the past 20 or so years.

As it was explained to me, WVU made a last-gasp push to join the ACC in 2011 but was given the Heisman by Swofford. Only when the ACC said no again did WVU open up its options and push for the Big 12.

Interesting. I'm surprised. I could see that in times past the ACC might not have wanted to expand, but if they are going to take Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Louisville, why not WVU?
