I would think the Mountain West would be better year in, year out than Big East 2.0. But, add a Tulsa and well, maybe not. They've been pretty good for the last 5-6 years.

That actually makes more sense. There's nothing "big" or "east" about the newcomers. It's Conference USA with a different name.

When I, and many others of my generation, think Big East, we think Georgetown vs. St. John's at Madison Square Garden. John Thompson. Louie Carneseca. Patrick Ewing. Chris Mullin. David Wingate. Mark Jackson. Bill Wennington. The Big East was originally a basketball league and probably should have told its members that if they want to play football, stay independent or do it on their own time and dime.

No objection to them adding, say, St. Joseph's or Rhode Island or UMass or whoever. But it should always be a basketball league based in the northeast.

I thought UMass was being considered for the 12th not-Big East spot?

South Florida was never a member of the Metro Conference, but Florida State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech were. The Metro was nothing but a fond memory by the time USF started up its athletic program.

South Florida was in the Metro from 1991 to 1995.

Prior to last season, USF's most recent NCAA Tournament appearance was in 1992 when they earned an at-large bid out of the Metro Conference.

The league was gone before USF started its football program though.

Me too. I thought they wanted someone to pair UConn up with?

I stand corrected. Now that you've jogged my fading memory, I do recall they came in with VCU and Charlotte about the time South Carolina was heading to the SEC and FSU to the ACC in the first wave of conference realignment.

I have a hard time keeping track of all this shit. Almost seems like a full-time job.

I keep reading this thread for breaking news that UNC and UVa are leaving for the Big 10, screwing Duke and Wake.

And I keep reading for continuing bewilderment. Everything boggles the mind. But it just further exposes the schools and NCAA for what they are - human trafficking and exploitation services for the almighty dollar.

One of my favorite posts on this subject was from someone quoting a six or seven year old thread where most everyone was saying conference realignment on this scale would never happen, yet, here it is.

You know, if UNC and UVa do decide to go to the Big Ten, Duke and Wake are actually perfect fits for the non-catholic side of the Big East split. I'm not saying that to be snarky, their football and basketball programs both fit and it makes geographic sense too. I'm not sure those schools would quite see it that way though.

That's a great point. Duke would be a huge get for that league.

The question is what would Duke and Wake do with their football programs. They couldn't survive as independents.

No, I'm talking about Duke and Wake joining Cincy, UConn, Temple, etc. Their football programs would actually fit there quite well.
