I heard a bunch of people come up with names for the former Big East and they all sucked on ice. The Metro wouldn't have been too bad, but the rest sounded like Division II conferences or production companies.

    The fuck are they thinking?

Rule No. 1 of the Expansion Era: Never choose a conference name that has a fucking number in it.

  3. Big East split finally official with Catholic 7 leaving July 1. No announcement on Catholic 7 keeping Big East name or keeping MSG as men's basketball tournament site.

I don't care if it has a number in it. I care about that number accurately reflecting the number of schools which are currently members.

Interesting column by Pete Thamel at SI.com about the ACC's future.

"All five major conference commissioners privately acknowledge that realignment isn't done. And the next logical evolution will inevitably be a poaching of the ACC.

"When will this happen? That's the biggest question among athletic directors and TV executives right now. No one knows the answer. But this much is certain -- there's nothing that's happened in the last three years that suggests that realignment will just stop. Will Jim Delany expand the Big Ten this spring with North Carolina and Virginia? Will Mike Slive pull the trigger first and nab N.C. State or Virginia Tech? Will the Big 12 make a power play for Florida State or Clemson? Who makes the first move? Rest assured that even the most deep-rooted ACC schools have contingency plans in case the league gets poached."

You're talking about college presidents here who should be able to count.

Those might already be classes for North Carolina student-athletes.

Actually, a course in financial planning is not a bad idea for many of these guys.

And per the Omaha World-Herald, Creighton will also join the Big East next season.
