BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

I think this expansion stuff may lead to some better non-conference games. Now maybe Nebraska has non conference against A&M, and Colorado and so on.

I've been surprised how ESPN and SI.com have both kind of been following on this. I wonder if the Chicago/Philadelphia cup and Boston/LA final are viewed as a bigger deal, or at least, more important to "their" audience.

Assuming the Big 12 implodes, if the Mountain West was willing to go to 14 teams, they could set up something like this:

    East
    Baylor
    Iowa State
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Missouri
    New Mexico
    TCU

    West
    Air Force
    BYU
    Colorado St.
    San Diego St.
    UNLV
    Utah
    Wyoming

That would probably replace the Big 12 as a BCS conference.

If only because the Big 12 wouldn't exist anymore. They'd be adding a shitton of schools that aren't as good in football as the one they just put on hold (Boise State).

College football is of broader interest than either. The NBA is mostly relevant in NBA cities. Hockey has its own following. The Big 12, Big 10, Pac-10 saga plays to about 20 states.

I suggest everyone follow DanBeebe on Twitter. It is not the real DanBeebe, but man is it fun.

Here are some of today's tweets:

I'd love to learn more about all this realignment news, but I only have a free subscription to Orangebloods.

Big 10, if you want to play this game, I've had my eyes on Northwestern for a long time.

Our 400th follower will get an invitation to join the Big 12

You know what the "N" on Nebraska's helmets stands for? "Traitor."

I know some of you are curious why I might replace a departing team with Air Force. Hear me out: airplanes are really neat.

I cannot for the life of me see why the SEC hasn't pulled a mother of all slam dunks in terms of renegotiating its TV contract to a trillion dollars by inviting Notre Dame. Talk about a monopoly on TV sets - the best conference in America adding a team that as shitty as they've been on the field, still put not just national, but international ass in the seats. Notre Dame to the SEC would trump and squish any possible other move by anyone, period.

I think they would take Boise right?

However, you're adding five schools with infinitely better all-around athletic programs and much, much larger alumni bases. You're also getting one of college basketball's "royalty" programs.

Plus they league will play more games in the Central time zone.

If Notre Dame won't lower itself to be associated with the Big Ten, where all the schools are members of the AAU ... do you *really* think they'd stoop to hooking up with the SEC?

Not to mention the asskickings they'd take on a weekly basis.

I think virtually every MWC expansion scenario would include Boise State. Since Colorado apparently is going to ice all Baylor/Pac-10 talk by pre-emptively accepting a Pac-10 invite, I've got to think Baylor/KSU/BSU will be in the Mountain West as soon as the dust settles. ... Meanwhile, KU will move deliberately, and potentially, with Missouri, who isn't as big a lock for the Big Ten as reports have let on.

THIS is why they'd never join the SEC.

Hell, that will happen if they join the Big 10.
