The supersized WAC was quite unwieldy. Remember they didn't do Eastern and Western divisions, but used a quadrant system, divisions every couple of years, depending on the sport. Very confusing. But the real killer may have been the travel. Those trips from Honolulu to Tulsa weren't cheap.

Notre Dame is not joining a conference for football. Remove that possibility from any theorizing about the future.

If I’m the ACC I make a cursory inquiry to Maryland. Odds are it is shot down faster than a toilet flushes, but why not?

If the ACC is adding two and doesn’t get Maryland, I don’t think Temple would be the worst choice in the world. UConn would be good, too, but I’d heard BC blocked that proposed move before Louisville joined.

Close. BC blocked UCONN and that opened the door for Pitt.

Some interesting data sets here. TV ratings for the remaining Big 12 schools are comparable to the American Athletic Conference.

And the American moved its HQ to Texas … hmm, maybe the leftovers should just join the American. Maybe the two conferences should merge and keep the Big 12 brand.

Oklahoma State "claims" the 1945 national football championship because it was the only school which applied for all the seasons the AFCA retroactively awarded one, despite Army's unbeaten team -- an unanimous AP selection -- which also might be considered one of the greatest in the history of college football. Now that takes Big XII gonads.
