It's torture to be a G5 guy during all of this. No way to know how it is going to shake out. Nothing you can do but just sit and watch the dominoes fall and hope that your hopes don't get crushed.

    It so sucks.

Pretty much how I feel about soccer. I can relate.

Presidents of Clemson and FSU have had a pact for at least a decade re: conference affiliation and expansion. Started when Dr. Eric Barron was prez during last round of expansion.

Should have just asked you to start with. I suspect that there are a number of such pacts that may or may not hold in the coming storm, but those two acting together makes too much sense to walk away from.

It's gonna cost a dozen years of TV revenue to bolt, isn't it?
If not, we'll have yet another proof point that the obscene growth of footbawwwwl is choking off everything else.
    And that's not good.

If ESPN becomes the de facto commissioner of college football, how long until ESPN starts dictating changes to make it a shorter, faster-paced game for TV? I’m sure they have reams of research reflecting the consensus on here that four-hour games are killing interest. It feels like a makeover along the lines of Twenty20 cricket could be on the horizon.

So you’re saying something good is coming from this?

7-on-7 destroys any chance of a FAT GUY TOUCHDOWN.

Particularly if they go with the argument that if they shaved an hour off of games they could fit more games into more windows, expanding viewership. Clock only stops on incomplete passes in the last two minutes. Oh, and make sure you add a two minute warning at the end of each half.

Keeping the clock moving, even on first downs like the NFL does, would shave 10 minutes off the game at least. NFL has 12-minute halftimes, college 20 minutes because we have to have a band show (not necessarily a bad thing, BTW).

Stop the clock on an incomplete pass, but start it again once the ball is made ready for play, as is done now on out-of-bounds plays.

I’m not wild about mirroring NFL rules, but they’ve got it right with instant replay being a coach-initiated thing for the most part. The fewer the better.

Six-man rules. 45-point lead ends the game instantly on mercy rule.
