I looked at the link. A total of just over 2.6 billion dollars a year was paid out to all schools over six years. The remaining Power Four conferences, Texas and Oklahoma got about 1.7 billion dollars. So about 900 million, or about 150 million dollars a year, were paid out to the Jilted Eight J8) and the other Division 1 schools. If the Power Four decided to split off and could make the same money as the current playoff system they would make an additional 2.5 million dollars a year or so per school. The Power Four schools generate revenues on average of at least 100 million dollars, so if they split off the revenue increases would be two percent or so from football and whatever money they could make off a separate men's basketball tournament.

On the other hand if the Power Four spilt off they would have to consider the damage to their brand value, because of the loss of traditional rivalries and the loss of interest from fans who support schools outside the Power Four. It would be dumb to risk the brand value of the Power Four to chase incremental revenue increases of a couple of percentage points. However, the history of college sports the past 40 years is that avarice trumps brand management. I think a split is forthcoming.

I really think that was HST's favorite word.

Avarice puts too much polish on it. I prefer good old fashioned greed.

We need Dave Wannstedt in more conference realignment stories.

I keep seeing the future and it's the Pac-12 screaming at the ACC and the Big 10 "BUT WE HAD AN ALLIANCE!!!!"

The PAC-12 and ACC think it is an alliance. The Big 10 thinks it is tryouts.

The Pac-12 and the ACC are the TWO chicks the Big 10 is taking to the prom - they're "just friends" (nothing romantic) the B10 just didn't want to go stag and hoped to look like a "playa."

The B1G would probably take KU-KSU as a package deal over ISU.

Why the PAC would be interested in KSU without a package deal with KU, I couldn't fathom.
