Seconded, from several discussions during my time at the Herald-Sun.

USC does not have softball. USC does not have men's soccer. USC does not have gymnastics. UCLA has all three, as does the Big Ten. So USC dragged UCLA along with it (UCLA was the New York Giants) knowing full well it's travel costs would be substantially less than UCLA's. Many of USC's Olympic sports will remain in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, not the Big Ten, saving again on travel costs.

USC's AD was Walter O'Malley, playing with Horace Stoneham.

Anson might be a dick, but he is 100% correct on this issue. And every single ACC coach outside of football probably agrees with him when the tape recorders are off.

Stoneham's franchise has done just fine ever since.

Except for the times they were signed, sealed and almost delivered to (take your pick) Toronto, Tampa Bay or Washington DC because they were stone-cold broke and drawing less than 700,000 to the worst stadium in baseball.

Horace would have been better served staying in NYC and playing in whatever stadium the city was going to build in Queens, or even beating Griffith to Minneapolis/St. Paul. He certainly would have saved a substantial percentage of his personal fortune.

Nobody has really touched on the hilarity of USC or UCAL repping the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl.

Some playoff team, which won't be any of those four.

The B1G-Pac4 in the Rose Bowl alliance is over.

Granddaddy hosts a semifinal this season, then the playoff expands to 12 the next so that puts it into the QF/SF rotation. Unless it just wants to keep the 2 p.m. PDT Jan. 1/2 slot and be a constant QF spot.

North Carolina and Coach Settle Sexual Harassment Suit

I don't think that was the only situation involving him, either.

Funny how much you can get away with when you're a winning coach.

Stoneham was ready to move to Minneapolis, where they had their top farm team, until O'Malley came a'calling.
Hell, San Francisco might have been better off waiting for expansion instead of buying that bill of goods at Candlestick Point.
