A few years ago it would have been a no-brainer.

For a long time the majority of Super Bowls were routs. Might as well bet the rout and make double the money.

But most of the games have been a lot closer over the past decade.

Only because I need it on record:

Bears are just a better football team, America.

Not with Grossman at quarterback, when typically quarterback play determines the outcome in big games. Bears defense got picked apart by Drew Brees for three quarters, but got by when the Saints made too many mistakes. Being able to force turnovers is usually enough to win in the regular season at Arizona or against the Vikings -- it's another thing to do that and still win games in the playoffs.

Grossman needs to play a lot better than he did last week, or even the week before, if the Bears hope to win.

    Colts 35, Bears 21.

There was a quote in the paper from my old shop from John Thompson who was the defensive coordinator while Rex was a Gator. He basically said Rex was good in big games, but in games that meant nothing, they could never trust what he would get himself into.

  5. We must not have watched the same game. Drew Brees picked the Bears apart on two DRIVES. One at the end of the second quarter and one at the beginning of the third. More than one-third of his passing yards came on two throws, including an illegal pick play that sprung Reggie Bush for an 88-yard touchdown.

As far as your line about "being able to force turnovers" working better in the regular season than the playoffs, the Bears just won the fucking NFC Championship by forcing four of them while committing none.

Jesus Fucking Christ. The complete and total lack of respect and credit the Bears get for being a 15-3 team fucking baffles me. Peter King still has them ranked behind the Patriots and Chargers. He must have been too busy drinking fucking lattes and scarfing down yogurt-covered pretzels to watch any football the last two weeks.

The Colts lost to the fucking Texans for God's sake, but people are acting like they're suddenly a juggernaut and the Bears are unworthy of even facing them just because the Patriots shit the bed and blew an 18-point lead. The Bears had a 16-point lead on the Saints, and could have folded but didn't.

The Bears could win this game 44-7 and most of you STILL would call them lucky and the worst Super Bowl winner of all-time. Whatever.

Not an illegal pick, Colston never made contact and slid to the side to make it sure he didn't get called for it.

Works sometimes, but you can't solely rely on that all the time. If you do, you're in trouble. And until moments before the fourth quarter, when the Bears got a key turnover, that game was very much in doubt.

Not picking a team doesn't translate to a lack of respect. I love how the Bears play, any Steelers fan should. But there is reason for concern, watching the Bears struggle to score for three quarters against a weak defense.

They could have folded, sure. After Reggie Bush's taunt, though, they had no reason to. As for the Colts, give some credit in that they came back. It's not like the Patriots simply gave the game away.

Doubtful. Now, if they win 21-10 like the Steelers did and there's a call or three in debate, yeah, you will hear it. There's no debating a 44-7 outcome, though.

  10. You made some solid points on your other responses, but I have a bone to pick with this one. I have the game on TiVo and just watched that specific play. Colston made obvious contact with the defender. I've now watched it four times. It's pretty clear-cut. Is it seldom-called? Sure. But it's still illegal and could have been flagged.

I think I still have that on DVR and will watch it once more, but I'll concede here that you're probably right.

    The Bears will win.
