I'm referring to crossover potential. Spitz was more charismatic than Phelps and he was done after Bruce Jenner came along four years later. It's not about accomplishment but being able to move product. From what I've heard and seen, Phelps isn't much of a pitchman. What product does Michael Phelps make you want to buy? Torres can become the American Mom and Liukin can sell crap to young women.

Liukin has less personality than Phelps. Shawn Johnson could sell all kinds of stuff to little girls. Nastia, not so much.

Jim Lampley said it's as many fencing medals as the U.S. has won in the last 60 years. Who's the coach, Errol Flynn?

I'd dispute that either would be better spokespeople than Phelps, but for the sake of argument, I'll grant that to you. They'd be good pitchmen for what, six more months? Phelps at least has another Olympics in him.

As for him being bland and not being able to move product ... who has more personality, Tiger Woods or Charles Barkley? Now, who makes more in endorsements? Exactly. Liukin and Torres, even now at the height of their accomplishments will never sniff the amount of money that Phelps will be pulling in endorsements, for the next six months or 10 years.

If you're going to get 10 percent for 10 years from any of them, it has to be Phelps. Even 10 percent of his Dancing With the Stars fee would be alright with me.

It's Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, if you're interested.

That's quite funny, esp. since he was the worst of the sword fighters.
