So let me get this straight. If you choose a harder routine, you can screw it all up and still do better than someone who pulls off a less difficult routine without all the mistakes?

Yes, that's why the scoring system was changed, to reward people who try more difficult routines.

Judging from some of the weak-ass non-conference schedules being played in the Big 12 and Big 10, I wish it was the same in college football.

I'm not all that much into the gymnastics, but I was checking it out during Phils-Pads commercials. And while I'm sure there's a lot I missed, I was left with one overriding thought:

These are the best vaulters in the world? Seriously?

I only saw one of them land on their feet -- the 60-year-old German. And Sacramone lost to a Chinese chick who has apparently perfected the kneeplant.

Is there NOBODY on planet earth that can actually hit a landing in that event?

Of course they can, but as was previously mentioned, they have to try a harder vault to up the start value. They can do the most perfect vault in the competition, but if it's only a 5.6 start value, and the girl who had a 7.0 start value only gets a 9.0 for executing, guess who wins?

No one deserves a gold medal more than Shawn Johnson.

And she just might get it...having barely scored higher than Nastia there.
