I think the cat's out of the bag now, and she's Romanian. Johnson gets silver again.

It's a black Monday in China. The Sino Michael Phelps is felled by an Achilles tendon.

Yep, pulled the numbers off his legs and exited the stadium.

He had been struggling with for at least a couple of months. I can't imagine how hard that is for him, to not be able to perform.

Looking at those 35 golds (to 19 for the US of A), my heart bleeds for the Chinese.

And NBC surprisingly beat CBC to the story. CBC, having covered the women's triathlon live, is just catching up now. Our Elliotte Friedman said many in the crowd left after Liu Xiang pulled out, comparing the secrecy around the specific injury to a Stanley Cup playoff scenario.

China softball second baseman used to be a tank driver in the Chinese army. I'm not sure which would be a cooler job.

I've never had an Achille's injury, but that whole sequence was odd.

He's grimacing in pain in the starting blocks, he pulls up lame on the false start. He rips off his number and walks off the track ... and isn't limping or grimacing as he exits the stadium.

Kudos to NBC for breaking to live coverage of it, BTW.

Good god, you have no clue.

Only TWO people ever have won FOUR track golds in a single Oypmics... Jesse Owens in '36 and Carl Lewis in '84 -- 100, 200, long jump, 4-x-100.

No one who runs 400 has ever competed in the long jump in the Olympics --- NO ONE!
There never has been and never will by a a 4-x-200 in track in the Olympics.

The U.S. softball team isn't giving the IOC much of a reason to reinstate softball as a medal sport anytime soon.

Not sure how many games are left, but the aggregate score so far is something like 53-1... which, in itself, might be a giant middle finger to the IOC.

Alas, in the outburst against China, Bustos no smash.
