Tonight even Costas needed a translator. Karolyi said "uncompetent," meaning incompetent, and Costas thought he said "unconfident." But yeah, how about dual golds? Somebody get those Canadian figure skaters on the line.

I'm ok with dual golds. they handed out dual silvers and bronzes in swimming when the times were tied. I understand there is a tiebreaker in place, but if they get the same score, give em the same medal. what would the swimming tiebreaker be? first to touch the water at the start? it's just as arbitrary.

For people who have spent their lives in the sport, Daggett and Karolyi seem all to well aware how screwed up their sport is.

Karolyi is the second-best thing about the Olympics this time.

Hmm, just watched the uneven bars final (yay, NBC delay! ::))

Not seeing what all the fuss is about. As long as the rules weren't changed in the middle of the game, the tiebreaker is what it is. It sucks, but hey, somebody's gotta win. I don't have a problem with it.

Now, if the judging was corrupt/wrong ... or if the one routine was noticeably better than the other ... well, that's something different ...

As for the Borges piece on USA Boxing, don't we get this every four years? If the USOC was serious about boxing, which they're not because there isn't any sponsorship money in it, they'd recruit athletes who might not be up to snuff in other sports and develop them into fighters. The military used to be a great training ground for Olympic fighters, now not so much.

Found this on yahoo. I have to respectfully disagree with the first sentence of the third graf.

" By JOHN LEICESTER, AP Olympics Columnist 12 hours, 2 minutes ago

BEIJING (AP)—Yelena Isinbayeva got the Olympic gold and a world record; American Jenn Stuczynski got the silver and a lesson in humility.

And we now have a new rivalry that should make woman’s pole vaulting fun to watch for many more years to come.

Big poles and big mouths don’t go together. Stuczynski knows that now. Pole vaulting isn’t basketball or boxing. It’s far too graceful of a sport for the kind of trash-talk she doled out before the Beijing Games..."

Did y'all hear Stuczynski's coach after she won the silver? God, he made Belichick sound like an optimist.

    Take a chill pill, dude.
