Beautiful gold, so-so silver and shameful bronze: The running Olympics thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by deskslave, Aug 6, 2008.

  1. If you believe Bolt is clean.
    I don't.
Nobody (natural anyway) can outrun his nearest competitor by more than a half-second while slowing down. No. Way.

After everything shook out, there were two DQs, Spearmon and Churandy Martina giving Crawford the silver and Dix the bronze.

    Mr 1542,

Didn't say that he doesn't possess a work ethic. Don't know how you can construe it that way, but whatever. Hours are worse in football. No two-a-days for sprinters. He's going to put himself through NFL training camp in some godforsaken shithole when he could be making more money on the European track circuit in five star hotels in Paris, Stockholm, Oslo and London? Get a grip. All roads don't lead to the NFL, mlb and NBA.

    YD&OHS, etc

    Mr Redenbacher,

I can't think of a Jamaican who's tested positive unless competing for Canada (or maybe GB). Yellow and green are generally clean. If he fails a test, it's probably second-hand smoke.

Wow. Dix finishes fifth and gets the bronze.

    Awesome.

I'm with Mr. Popcorn. I will reserve judgement on Bolt until the tests come back. The times are impressive but his progression has been quite rapid, almost too rapid.

Good for Nick, but I still don't see how he wins unless he's suddenly gotten several seconds faster in the last six weeks.

Nice to see Symmonds get through the first round but he's going to have trouble making the final.

Yeah, his quote didn't inspire a lot of confidence.

"The thing that surprised me was when I got the lead and shut it off like we like to do and Reina and Yego were right there pushing it. I had to re-accelerate, which is always hard to do in the last 100m, but I'm kind of glad that I had to do it because it shows that I have that kick that I'm known for. It was good competitiveness that you want to see in the preliminary, people hunting down those two spots."

Bolt would be perfect for the NFL. Another egotistical, self-aggrandizing asshole to add to the roster.

I was looking at the heat sheet for his semifinal and his personal best and season bests are among the slowest in the heat. He'll have to run a great race to make it through, and if even he does that it leaves him with basically no chance at getting a medal.

Great match. I never thought the USA would win. but they have some great blockers.

Also saw USA baseball beat Japan 4-2. Both US losses by a total of two runs. Next up - Cuba.
