Here is a list of catchers I'd rather see behind the dish at Shea. In no particular order: Lo Duca, Piazza, Vance Wilson, Todd Hundley, Mackey Sasser, Gary Carter, John Stearns and Jerry Grote.

He'll go batter for batter in the 8th & 9th - he stays in as long as he's perfect, comes out after the first baserunner. Torre seems very proud of this approach even though it doesn't really make any sense.

I loved Vance Wilson behind the plate. The kid was a wall back there. If Jason Phillips were a little better with the arm, he would have been good. By the way, I thought he was a nice first baseman for a little while. And Hundley was the man, and probably still is.

Right now it's a non-save situation. What's the point of working your bullpen when you don't need to use it?

Considering last month he threw out a first pitch at 85 miles an hour, a 60-year-old Ryan might not be a bad alternative.

For the record, Mr. Beat is no liar.

I'd take him over Reid Ryan any day.

And if it was a save situation, it still wouldn't. I never said he was right, in fact I said he isn't, but it's what he does. In the meantime, Pettite is in the process of mooting the whole conversation.

Cody Ross picked off at third to end the inning.

At the time this was written, he'd given up 3 hits. What are you talking about?
