I'm dying to know, who is the one?

Also, my soul is dying inside as I decide between Sign O' The Times and Master of Puppets.

One of many killer matchups for me. I also spent plenty of time on the Pretenders-Born In The USA matchup. Love both albums, but find myself still listening to one way more than the other these days. I can see some upsets brewing.

Remains In Light - Synchronicity is another matchup that might need overtime.

That logic is why I voted for Disintegration over Murmur, which is probably the "objectively better" album. Also, I wanted to piss off Bubbler.

I voted for Chapman as well. That's a great album...

I love Brothers in Arms. I know it won't beat Thriller, but it has my vote...

Straight Outta Compton vs. Paul's Boutique was my toughest one... I'll take either of those over It takes a nation of millions, which I don't even think is the best Public Enemy album.

While I think the Bomb Squad's work on Fear of a Black Planet was amazing, Chuck D was at the top of his game on It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.

I like both albums, but I like Fear of a Black Planet better...

Yeah, I get it. Both are classics, among the 10 best rap albums ever. But that's for another day (and a tournament with maybe three voters tops).

I agree about the Straight Outta Compton vs. Paul's Boutique matchup. Either way, you have to doubt a hip-hop album can win this tournament after seeing what's widely regarded as the best hip-hop album ever lose to Peter Gabriel in the first round.

Illmatic was in? And of course rap's not going to win. Maybe the Straight Outta Compton-Paul's Boutique winner can make the Final Four. It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back will inevitably lose to Appetite for Destruction, if not sooner. Raising Hell's not beating Born in the USA, and even if it does, it's definitely not beating Thriller. The West is terrible, but I imagine The Joshua Tree and Murmur will reach the regional final.

That said, I think this tournament will be far less predictable than the last one. I'm picking Purple Rain to knock off Appetite for Destruction in a close title game.

I think the Final Four will be

    Born in the USA
    Appetite for Destruction
    Purple Rain
    Joshua Tree

I'd put Illmatic in the top five hip-hop albums ever, just like I'd probably put Nas in the top five MCs. But without Rakim you might never have a Nas, Jay Z, Tupac or Biggie.
