Best cards I opened out of a packet with my own hands when I was a kid.

    God. Damn. That. Montana card.

My senior year of HS (1991), a kid down the street got me back into the card-collecting thing. At the time, I had a freaking shitload of cards in shoeboxes in my closet. Found three boxes full of football cards from the year of the Montana posted above. So I start searching, figuring I'm bound to have AT LEAST one of those bad boys.

So I start looking ... and looking ... and looking ... and looking ... and looking ... and finally, in the third box, I see printed on the back of a card "San Francisco QB"

FUCK. YES. That's gonna be worth HUNDREDS of freaking dollars at the card place down the street. So I turn it over and who's staring me dead in the eyes?

    STEVE. MOTHERFUCKING. DEBERG.

    Cocksucker.

What I love is the 70s era Topps cards. Back in the day, they had no competition and I think, as such, they often didn't even try when it came to photo selection. Two examples:

Meoli was no superstar, but I'm sure they could have caught him doing something else.
Brett, of course, looks like he was caught on the far end of a telephoto lense.

I was way disappointed this wasn't the post that started the thread. Thanks to the noob, my disappointment was short-lived.
