Max Weinberg, Alex Van Halen and the line starts there. Max' versatity is unbelieveable.

Official live albums suck. Some bands (Slayer being a notable exception, I'm sure there are others) spend more time in the studio tweaking their "live" album than they did on tour playing the tunes.

Gimme an illicitly recorded bootleg of a show any day.

  3. Neil Peart.

If you hate Rush, fine, but don't hate dude. He's really good.

For those who love drumming, here's a treat.

This video features some of the best drummers of today's music in a marching band drumline set-up. My vote, Chad Sexton, 311, is in it:

Sexton is one of the most melodic and solid drummers I've heard in the last 15 years. If you get a chance, check out "Applied Science" off Grassroots, a 1994 release. It's got a great solo; the one on 311 Live in 1998 is even better. And every time I've seen 311 in concert, they do a Tribal Drum solo, where all five members are drumming out the end of Sexton's solo. It's impressive stuff.

Buddy Rich was on my list but he's been dead since '87.

  12. Danny Carey is hands down the greatest drummer to ever breathe and I can't believe he's only been montioned once on this thread. Unbelievable ::)

For those of you unfamiliar with his abilities:
