Best Led Zeppelin song ever?

Amen, brother. Also saw him in concert years ago.

 

Was never a big Kashmir fan. But I remember the first time hearing Over the Hills and Far Away ... told my brother that the song sucked. He says, hold on. By the end, I was thinking, "That song was fucking awesome."

Love the transition in Over the Hills and Far Away. Still one Zep song that I play as loud as I can.

 

When I was 13, I heard "Over the Hills" on the radio and immediately rode my bike to Tower Records to buy it.

I asked the girl behind the counter what the name of the song was and hummed a few bars.

Can you sing some of it.

Reluctantly, I started very softly speaking the transition. "I live for my dreams and a pocket full of gold."

No, I don't know what song you're talking about.

Finally, I sing about 30 seconds of it. I'm bright red with embarrassment and the girl and two co-workers are egging me on.

"No, we don't know it."

"You've got to be fucking kidding me!"

They were laughing their asses off and finally one of them took pity on me and told me it was on Houses of the Holy.

 

Comparing the Eagles to Led Zep is like comparing Barry Manilow and Frank Sinatra.

My vote: "Mean old levee, taught me to weep and moan ..."
Shout-out to Memphis Minnie, too, for writing it.

 

It's tough to pick just one song from the Led Zep catalog. Good choices, though.

 

So we're ranking both covers and originals? Their rendition of "Travelling Riverside Blues" gives me chills.

And "Thank You" is not on the list. Remember watching Joe Perry join Page and Plant for this tune on some TV thing and the look on Perry's face was sheer awe. Priceless.

Make it 2, that song is amazing. For the entire time I was in high school I ate,slept, breathed, drank Zeppelin and that song was always my favorite

 

Tangerine is the first song someone learning the guitar should play. Fucking brilliant song.

 

Since I've been loving you and Fool in the Rain are my two favorites. I know a lot of people may not like Fool in the Rain, but I think it's fabulous. But as others have said it is really tough to pick just one Led Zeppelin song considering so many are amazing.

 

Gotta agree with this as well. Over the hills and far away is a brilliant fucking song.
