As luck would have it, Alice is making chicken enchiladas for dinner right now. As a redheaded Scotswoman, she's about as ethnically opposite from Mexico as can be. It's not like what you get in LA. But it's pretty damn good all the same, and it's right here.

Celebrating a delayed Cinco de Mayo tomorrow (quartro de September?) at a Mexican place in the city I've not been to before but comes highly recommended.

My little ruby-red enclave has the best "Mexican" restaurant in a very large county. I use "Mexican" in quotes because most of that variety here is actually "Tex-Mex," which is quite different.

Monroe's in ABQ was really good. We also heard Frontier by the UNM campus was great but it was packed, so we just ordered the sweet rolls to go.

And surprisingly, Gwen got a tremendous fry bread entree at the restaurant at the Isleta Casino just south of town the next night.

I'm honestly not sure I've ever had great actual Mexican food. I hate to say it, but I've found that I prefer what would probably be thought of as "Americanized?" Mexican food.

Mexican food is a good fifth man in a rotation; solid, it's never terrible and never great.

    Wallace, N.C. every Thanksgiving day.
There is a big flea market setup, and Mexican food vendors set up making everything under the sun. The only thing that could be more authentic is if you were actually IN Mexico, and quite honestly, if you were blind folded and dropped in the place, you'd think you were.
    It's freakin' awesome.

If you ever come out to the Bay Area, find yourself a Oaxacan place that can serve you legit mole. I know a spot that has some bomb chicken mole and you can get it with a side of fried crickets!

My principal just treated me to some
    birthday
Salvadorian pupusas. A little heavy, but damn good. I don't know why I've never had these in my life before.

Was taken to a Mexican restaurant in New York — New York City? — and I knew it would be horrible. When we were done, I grabbed the waiter and told him, “I was prepared for this to be awful. It was delicious. Thank you.”
