Best movie of the year so far: Bourne Ultimatum.

Is there a better trilogy? I don't think there is...

For me, this is the best film of the year, followed closely by Zodiac and Sicko... Breach would have to be up there as well...

Don't speak ill of those other "originals" known as "The Trilogy."

That could open up a whole can of Kevin Smith-induced discussion.

The Jersey Trilogy is tremendous, but I don't think it's on the level of the three Bourne movies...

I'm sure some would argue for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but it's just not my thing... Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Godfather III were all pretty mediocre, so that takes them out of the discussion... Spiderman 3 sucked. Pirates 3 sucked. Shrek 3 sucked...

We'll see how Superbad rates... NYT liked it.

    HUGE year for Seth Rogen.

  5. Have to disagree.
Indiana Jones, Star Wars (the first three movies of course) and Lord of the Rings all stand above the Bourne movies.
I really enjoyed the first two Bourne movies. The third was entertaining, but it had some plot holes that bothered me. Some of the fight scenes, like the one in Morocco with Desh?, while good, were hard to follow.

I think the third movie was the weakest of the three.

  6. I would argue that The Godfather trilogy still merits a place among the top two or three trilogies ever. Yes, the third one was nowhere near as good as the first two, but to accomplish that it would have to be among the top five movies ever made, in my opinion.

The first two Godfather movies alone are better than any other movie that was ever a part of a trilogy and to me it's not even close. Simply because there is a third one, it's got to be the best.

The Bourne trilogy was pretty damn good but it'll never top the Godfather trilogy for one reason--Matt Damon is a B level actor. He's the new Kevin Costner.

Give him a role where he doesn't have to stretch himself artistically and he's perfect.

Best movie of the year? No way. Best summer movie? Probably.

I'll be the first to agree that none of the Bourne films touch the first two Godfathers, the first two Star Wars films or the first two Indiana Jones films... The third Bourne film is better than the third films in those trilogies though...

    Best action trilogy maybe?

Whoever said Damon was B-list needs to buy a clue... He's one of the best actors working. Between The Good Shepherd (outstanding film), The Departed and the Bourne Ultimatum I'd say he's doing quite well and that's not even counting Oceans 13...

I'd say he's a long way from his buddy Affleck on the B-list...

What about the porno Caught From Behind trilogy? Then they did a second and a third ...

    ... and a 15th, and a 16th ...

Ben Affleck? He's not even on anyone's Z list.

I didn't say Damon wasn't a good actor but he's limited in the type of roles he can play.-secretive and emotionally repressed charcters.

Ocean's 13 was an enjoyable piece of fluff but hardly an acting challenge.

Costner could never have pulled off the scenes with Williams in Good Will..

Yes, Damon's smirky, but he's no Costner.

  12. Unfair criticism of Matt Damon. I think he's only getting better. Loved him in Good Will Hunting, these Bourne movies and he was outstanding in The Departed (which gets overlooked because Leo was so fantastic).

I'd say these Bourne movies are probably in the top 3 action trilogies of all time, though I prefer Indiana Jones and, if it still counts (obviously there are 4), the first three Die Hards.
