How in the blue fuck am I supposed to know how Montana would have done with the Dolphins and Marino with the 49ers?

What I do know is Montana won at Notre Dame. He won a lot. He won with San Francisco for more than a decade. And he won in Kansas City as a creaky old man. He got the job done wherever he was at. Would he have won a Super Bowl in Miami? Maybe, maybe not. I can't say because I don't know because Montana never played for the Dolphins.

What I do know is Montana won wherever he was at no matter who was around him. Whether he had Jerry Rice at WR or JJ Birden, he won. Whether he was playing in icy fields in Dallas or in the dome in Houston, he won. His teammates changed dozens of times over the years. He still won.

Lots of players make other around them better. Marino did too. But what made the difference is, whether it's Marino's fault or not, Montana won four Super Bowls spread out over a decade. Marino won none.

Unitas was Montana before Montana. A friend's father saw both play in person, and he said Elway and Montana merely did some of the same things Unitas did decades before. This from a guy who could not stand the Colts.

So yeah, I'm with Unitas here.

I wonder how good Manning will play in the Pro-Bowl.

There is now a Wal-Mart where the Peanut Bar once stood. Time marches on.

That's the kind of stuff I had read. I've never had a chance to talk with anyone who really saw much of Unitas.

Most of the people that saw Unitas play are dead now so.

Well, saying something like "he made everyone around him better" is just as much conjecture as the hypothetical.

And, that is what sportswriters' jobs are there because of.

Marino made the players around him better to a much greater extent than Montana did.

You call the guy a Peyton Manning apologist... shows you know nothing.

Well... I KNOW how Montana would have done with the Dolphins.... he would have possibly contended for a Super Bowl in 1993 or 1994... after the Dolphins piled up Top 5 draft picks from 1986-1989 with the 3-13 records they would have had each year without Marino propping up the entire franchise.

Montana wouldn't have won shit....or even made a Super Bowl.
