Best song from a movie

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by PhilaYank36, Apr 22, 2007.

  1. Last of the Mohicans soundtrack was unbelievably good. The whole song toward the end where there was very little dialogue was fucking great.

    Neil Young's "Philadelphia" in "Philadelphia."

"Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

"Everybody Wants Some" by Van Halen in (I think) "One Crazy Summer."

"Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" by Spinal Tap.

And while they're a punchline to 80s music jokes, Wang Chung's soundtrack for "To Live and Die in LA" is really good.

Most will say "Staying Alive" for Saturday Night Fever's entry ... but I humbly submit "You Should Be Dancing" as a damn solid song from the movie.

The Cars' song is a nice complement to Phoebe Cates taking her top off in Fast Times.

    In-fucking-credible dance scene too.

"Twist and Shout" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in A Clockwork Orange

Blue Danube Waltz from 2001: A Space Odyssey

And how about the soundtrack to Jaws? Actually, pretty much anything by John Williams (Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones, JFK, Close Encounters)

Danny Elfman's theme for Batman is a great piece of work. To borrow a phrase from the Sopranos thread: it set up the rest of the movie nicely. :)

Yes. The Bruce one is very good, but I think the Neil Young one is amazing.

Yes. Bruce's great "Streets of Philadelphia" opens the movie and Neil's aching "Philadelphia" plays over the closing credits.

Thank goodness somebody said something for John Williams. Sure, he did some stuff for the Boston Pops - all well and very good - but his musical mark will be his film soundtracks.

Namely the Star Wars films, "Indiana Jones" trilogy and numerous others. The best underrated addition to Piotr's Williams-centric list: "Cadillac of the Skies" from "Empire of the Sun," followed by the main theme of "Seven Years in Tibet."

Two more additions where the films made barely a ripple but the music from the productions lived on: "Children of Sanchez" with music by Chuck Mangione and "That's the Way of the World" with music from Earth, Wind & Fire.

Just thought of another one that nobody's mentioned yet....

    "Shaft" - Issac Hayes
