Sublime doing Hong Kong Phoey. It was on an album called Saturday Morning Cartoons that I had a long time ago and can't find now. It also had stuff like Sponge doing "Speed Racer''
and a version of Gigantor by someone else.

    It was awesome!

Getting back to primetime, I'd have to go with Bonanza, MASH, Hill Street Blues, and Mr. Belvidere.

I can't stop. (and thanks to the person on youtube who posted I guess the whole album)

    Butthole Surfers and underdog

Liz Phair and Material Issue doing the Banana Splits (Tra La La)

Not a theme song, but, Frente! doing "Let the sunshine in'' - the Pebbles and Bam Bam song from the Flintstones

Tripping Daisy - Sigmund and the sea monsters (friends)

    Collective Soul - the Bugaloos

    Face to Face - Popeye

    The Murmurs - HR Puffnstuff

    Helmet - Gigantor

Another that's not a theme: Mary Lou Lord with Semisonic - Sugar Sugar from the Archies

Wax - Happy Happy Joy Joy

Juliana Hatfield and Tanya Donnelly - Josie and the Pussycats

Reverand Horton Heat - Stop the Pigeon/Johnny Quest

I forgot how great this cd was - I gotta find it again.

By the way, most of the videos feature commentary from Drew Barrymore and some other people, sort of like Mystery Science Theater 3000 - I think MTV or somebody did a special with all the videos from the cd at some point. I remember seeing it at the time.

And the guy from youtube who posted all this also has a bunch of classic McDonalds commercials, some wrestling stuff, some 3 stooges, other music, and old sesame street stuff. A pretty crazy collection

I heard that Sublime cover a few years ago, and I, too, found it pretty cool.

Whew, 9 pages and no one has mentioned the White Shadow, my all-time favorite show. (C'mon Fox, get that final third season out on DVD).
Also as previously mentioned, WKRP (both intro and credits), Greatest American Hero, Rockford Files, Match Game (or maybe it wasn't?), Cheers and I'll throw out a wild card, Northern Exposure.

patchs, I got you with The White Shadow. Grossly underrated show and theme song.

I thought of a few more after playing an old CD of theme songs I burned a few years ago:

    -House Calls (both versions)
    -Ironside (never grows old)
-Search (only lasted about a year on NBC. It starred Hugh O'Brian, Doug McClure, and Burgess Meredith. The pilot was called "Probe.")
-It Takes a Thief (both versions. One of the most memorable one-liners in any opening: "Oh look Al, I'm not asking you to spy. Just asking you to steal" from Malachi Thorne puts a smile on my face. But I never knew that there was another one-liner, from Robert Wagner: "Let me get this straight. You want me to steal?")
    -Cornoration Street

Yes, Yoko. Instead of Eva Gabor's fractured Hungarian-English, it could be Yoko's stilted Japanese-English version. Then, on the final verse, as John sings, "Green Acres, we are there!!!", Yoko could launch into a 20-minute series of piercing screams.

    If only ....

I can see that image now. I'll have the t.v. on mute and laughing my ass of at Yoko.
