I was a big fan of the Mario All-Stars for the super nes. It had the variety that I loved about all three games.

Agreed. No sports game has ever immersed me as much as High Heat. Plus it had a great modding community to go with it.

A current contender is RFactor. Great racing game which has every mod, track and kind of car you can think of to race with.

Bases Loaded's best squad -- hands down -- was the D.C. team that featured a monster cleanup hitter named Fendy. Dude made Ryan Howard look like Adam Everett in the power department.

I did get God of War II. Was so stoked after finishing the first one that I went out and bought it a couple days later.
And, honestly, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one.
Some things were awesome. Fighting the Colossus of Rhodes in the first stage rocked. Seeing the scale of some of the Titans was incredible. But overall, the first one seemed like a better game. More puzzles in the first one, compared to more hack and slash in GOW II. There were parts of GOW II that felt like it would never end. The first one was shorter, I think, but it felt like you were making progress. Parts of GOW II felt like you were just running around doing chores.
And the first one had an ending. I hate that shit where they just lead you into the next game -- especially when it's going to be on a system I'm not sure I'll buy or not.
GOW II was a solid game. Just not as good as its predecessor, in my opinion.

Man, RBI Baseball, arcade version, was awesome. 1957(?) Braves v. 1962 Yankees. Eddie Matthews v. Whitey Ford. Sweet. Good Times.

Final Fantasy 6 (or 3, if you must) is by far my favorite. It was the first RPG I could really get into and play for hours on end. The number of story lines, the soundtrack and just the overall depth of the game were fantastic. Even after the Playstation and FF7 came out, I still went back to FF6, MIDI music, graphics and all.

Honorable mention to the first Silent Hill, if just for sheer creepiness. Playing that in the dark basement of an empty house at midnight wasn't the smartest gaming decision I've ever made.

Remember Arch Rivals, the hoops game where you could punch opponents and stuff. Oh man I loved that game.

I keep thinking of new ones to add to my list:

    Doom
any Mario Party (a great game if you've been drinking)

And as for Bases Loaded, I was always Philly. Not a great offense outside Oko, but man, their pitching staff didn't have anyone with an ERA above about 4.30.

  12. Agreed about NBA Jam. It's one of the games I wish you could download on the Xbox Live Service. There was a pool hall around my way with an NBA Jam machine. The fact that is stored your stats, progress, etc., was great. The kids in the hood would have countless NBA Jam tourneys at the pool hall. I always thought it was a crazy site to walk in there and see 20-25 people waiting to play the game.
