I want to add Sim City 2000 to my list. I played that game to death. Oh, and a little-known gem named 'Worms'. My goodness I played too much Worms. If you've never heard of it or played it, you need to find a copy or an online version you can play.

As for Mega Man 3 over 2, it's simple: I could never beat 2, so I preferred 3. On 2, I think I beat the first bonus stage a couple of times -- the one with the flying dragon boss -- but I don't think I ever got past the next level. For that matter, I never beat Mega Man 1 either. I can't even beat all the robots on it -- I swear to God, whoever put those damn disappear/reappear blocks into Mega Man should be shot. Those things can single-handedly ruin an otherwise fantastic Mega Man game.

  4. Wow, I have not seen any love for Street Fighter II. There was a store around where I used to live that had a SF machine in the front. The storefront had some depth to it, so they put the machine against a glass window next to the door. Can't tell you how many times I kicked that machine. There used to be about 10 people jammed into this little corner playing the crap of that thing. Might not be the best game of all time, but it was my best experience playing a game and a great teen year memory.

    Other favorites:
    Galaga
    RBI
Bases Loaded (I actually kept a notebook with stats for the whole damn season!)
    SMB3
TMNT Arcade Game (It took me $20 in quarters to beat that fucking game)
Halo (First FPS I ever played)
    Prince of Persia ;D
More recently, BioShock, Call of Duty 4.

I made that into a drinking game last year, but no one wanted to play with me. Go figure.

  8. I've seen a lot of games I expected on this list, but I'm surprised I'm the only one who mentioned God of War.
Did any of you all play it and just not get sucked in? I thought it was incredible.

There was a pizza place a couple blocks from where I lived that had a Street Fighter II machine. I dispatched many an opponent with Honda's Hundred Hand Slap -- otherwise known as pounding the hard punch button as fast as you could.
The main reason I finally got a Super Nintendo was because I figured spending the $150 on it and SF II Turbo was cheaper than feeding quarters into that machine for the next six months.

Finally got God Of War as a Christmas present from the wife (was waiting for the used price to drop to $10, but it never did). Great freaking game. Straddled that fine line where it was challenging, but not impossible. Some of the puzzles took me 30 or 40 minutes to figure out, but I never had to look up the solution on any of them. The meat of the game took more brainpower than hand speed to get through, which was a nice change.
Well, until the end. The Kratos clones and that room where about two trillion harpies come after you can lick my sweaty ass crack.

I really liked Pigs in Space for Atari. The Space Invaders with the chickens was a fun time.

Street Fighter II was a great arcade experience. I had a friend who was really, really into it and he would drag me along to the local arcade. I would certainly get my ass kicked nearly every time against the endless supply of minions who hung out there, but when I did win it was a great feeling.

Best console game: Legend of Zelda for NES

I haven't played any of the other Zelda games, but this thing used to keep me highly engaged for days as a kid. I was so passionate about the game, that one time after losing a save after completing a very difficult level and I think I almost tore the NES to pieces.

Reset and power button at the same time folks.
